Below is a snippet from my upcoming Off-The-Grid book, which I hope to release in the near future. I have received a ton of questions regarding my off-the-grid project, especially about my difficulties dealing with general contractors. Anyone who has built a house or done some major remodeling knows dealing with contractors can be a serious pain in the you-know-what. There is a lot more to this chapter that I have not included, such as my advice on how to deal with bad contractors, and how to find a good one. To see the entire chapter you will just have to be patient and wait for the book to come out 🙂
One thing I will say, is I think this could possibly be the most important chapter in the entire book, so I hope you enjoy Gary’s unfiltered honesty snippet.
I get asked all the time what are my main principles or advice on how to obtain optimal health. It is a little harder than it seems, as it is different for every person. What I have done is put together what I consider to be the 5 pillars of optimal health. These are not all encompassing or perfect for everyone, but I do think most people who follow these will not only greatly improve their overall health, but their life as well.
How Bacteria Rule Your Intestines And Your Life
Your gastrointestinal tract is considered one of the most complex microbial ecosystems in the world. The microbes in your gut not only affect your digestion, but your entire health. It is estimated nearly 100 trillion fungi, bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms compose your body’s micro-flora. You have 10 to 1 bacteria to cells in your body. Basically humans are living bacteria, and without them our species would cease to exist. To say this relationship between bacteria and the human host is essential, but yet greatly misunderstood by most is an understatement.
Why It Takes Guts To Be Healthy
When I say “it takes guts” to be healthy I mean this figuratively and literally. Gut health has been known in the alternative health arena for several years, but recently the mainstream health industry has jumped on board. Matter of fact, a day doesn’t go by where I don’t see an advertisement in either print media or on television touting some miracle probiotic, or digestive health supplement. So what does it all mean? As, my loyal followers know, the health community loves to jump on trendy topics, and then confuse you to no end. All in the name of money and greed, never really your health.
When it comes to gut health, this is where the journey to optimal health really starts. But unlike those supposed health companies touting there product as a miracle to regaining your gut health, and overall health, I’m going to break this topic down into the real nitty-gritty.
Today a lot of terms are thrown around when it comes to living a simpler or more self-reliant lifestyle, but the word I like to use that encompasses all of them is the term survivalist.
The reason I want to put my own slant on what a survivalist means to me, is because I think the term has been skewed by popular television shows, and by people who call themselves survivalist or preppers, who are really neither. Just like my definition of Primal in my Primal Power Method book series on health, those who follow me know how frustrated I get with the pretenders, who use popular monikers to get attention, but know very little about the term, and at worst do nothing in the area they prescribe to be experts in.
